Watkins leads Golden Eagles to Play on Sunday at Wolverine Invitational

Ann Arbor, Mich. - Sophomore Erin Watkins won a pair of matches and advanced the the consolation finals to lead the Golden Eagles at the Wolverine Invitational today hosted by the University of Michigan. Marquette wraps up play at the Varsity Tennis Center tomorrow.
Watkins won both of her matches today in the blue singles flight, defeating Cincinnati?s Andrea Philips (score unavailable) and Michigan?s Lindsey Goldstein, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to the consolation finals where she will meet Rattiya Hiranrat of Western Michigan.
Sophomore Beba Calbeto also saw action in the Blue flight today, but was defeated by Michigan State?s Pascale Schnitzer, 6-3, 6-2. Calbeto then earned a bye and will face the winner of the Philips/Volle match tomorrow.
In the maize flight, Dabrowski earned a bye to start off today?s play but was defeated by Bowling Green?s Stefanie Menoff, 6-2, 6-4. Dabrowski will face Elizabeth Young of Cincinnati tomorrow. Rounding out singles action today was Lisa Nguyen who lost a close match to Cinncinati?s Madison Reasoner, 7-5, 6-2. She will play Marianne Eelens of Michigan State tomorrow.
In doubles action, the no. 1 duo of Calbeto and Watkins won two matches today defeating A. Jakupcin and Nusbaum of Bowling Green and Michigan State?s Andrews and Bader, 9-7 and 8-3, respectively.
At no. 2 doubles, junior Andrea Bukacek played with two different partners today, dropping a pair of matches. Bukacek teamed with Nguyen and lost to Michigan State?s Barson and Kelber, 8-3. Later, Bukacek paired with Dabrowski and was defeated by K. Jakupcin and Romer of Bowling Green, 8-1.
