Trio of Golden Eagles Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

Alison Loughrin was named Offensive Player of the Week, for her two-goal performance in Marquette?s 4-1 upset of No. 5 Notre Dame this past Friday. The junior forward entered the game midway though the first half and scored her first goal of the game at the 37:51 mark to give the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead. Five minutes after posting her first goal, she scored her second goal of the game. The Appleton, Wis. native currently ranks second on the squad in scoring (12 points) and is tied for the team lead in goals (six).
Senior Heather Goranson was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Week. Helping to solidify the Marquette backfield in its 2-0 week, she played a total of 180:00 minutes versus Notre Dame on Friday and DePaul on Sunday. Her play was a key factor in MU's defense yielding just one goal through the two matches. On Sunday, the Germantown, Wis. native was part fo a defensive front that allowed the Blue Demons to take just one shot-on-goal.
Laura Boyer was honored by the conference as its Goalkeeper of the Week. The sophomore went 2-0, yielding just one goal in 180:00 minutes of play. Against Notre Dame on Friday, the sophomore recorded a career-best 13 saves - a mark which also ranks as the sixth-best performance in team history. On Sunday, the Overland Park, Kan. native stopped the lone shot against her, earning her seventh shutout of the season.
The No. 18 ranked Golden Eagles return to action this weekend, facing West Virginia in Morgantown on Friday night before traveling to Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon.
