No. 6 Golden Eagles Blanked, 2-0, at No. 21 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. ? The No. 6 Marquette women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at No. 21 West Virginia tonight. The loss snapped the Golden Eagles' (11-2-1, 4-2 BIG EAST) three-game win streak. It is just the second time that MU has been held scoreless this season.
"We're disappointed with tonight's result and our performance." said head coach Markus Roeders. "We did not play at the level we needed to."
Both goals came in the second half of play, as WVU's (7-3-3, 4-1-1) Marisa Kanela found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 47th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Boyer was whistled for rough play in the box, setting the first and eventual gamewinner.
"I thought we did a decent job in the first half, but just didn't create enough opportunities for ourselves." added Roeders. "In the second half, after the penalty kick, I thought West Virgnia fought a little harder than we did."
In the 78th minute, the Mountaineers went up, 2-0, after sophomore forward Ashley Banks found the back of the net on a header set up by Kanela and Krystie Kallman.
Boyer played all 90:00 minutes, allowing two goals while making four saves.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Pittsburgh.
