Golfers Win First Spring Event
2/27/2005 12:00:00 AM | Men's Golf
Only 18 holes were played on the first day before the weather forced the remaining 36 holes to be scrapped. Marquette shot a two-over, 290, as a team in the first round to claim the tournament title.
"The guys played really well," coach Tim Grogan said. "We were competing against some of the smaller southern schools which have good programs. We averaged 290 in the fall, so it's great to pick up where we left off."
Ted Gray and Joe Weber led the Marquette contingent with a fourth place finish. Both golfers shot 72, one stroke behind the three tournament winners.
Michael Bielawski and Kyle Murphy shot 73 and Steve Sass rounded out the field with an 83.
The golf team returns to action on Friday, March 3 with a 56-hole event in Kingshill, St. Croix, the St. Croix Collegiate.
