Late Sunday night, we got the phone call that we've been waiting for all week. We host (yeah!) the first round WNIT game this Thursday against Nebraska (7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center). We are all really excited about this match up. Nebraska is a Big 12 conference team, so we know this is going to be a good game.
Sunday was a busy day for all of us. Marquette Athletics held a bowling competition to raise money for Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of Milwaukee, and needless to say, our team did quite well. Actually, we took third place. See, a number of us are from Wisconsin and apparently the thing to do in junior high in Wisconsin is to join a bowling league. (I didn't get that memo. I bowled a 75. No, that wasn't a typo, not a 175... a 75.) Tierra was our sleeper, she was all quiet and reserved about her skills, and she led the team with a 188! Well, it was a success, because everyone raised a lot of money.
We have been practicing hard for the last week, and it's nice to know who we are practicing for now. As usual, our coaches are hard at work preparing us for what we will see. As Jon put it, "post season is new life." Some teams "cash out" in post season because mentally and physically they are tired, and some teams are even more excited about the opportunity that every game presents. We are definitely excited!
We are also very excited because we get to host. All of us are extremely thankful to our administration for not hesitating to do what was necessary for us to play at the Al. We have a good record at home, and we intend on keeping that up in the NIT. So... what better to do than to celebrate the luck of the Eagles Thursday... it's not too often that we get a chance at another home game!
See everyone Thursday,,
