Freshman Gray continues strong season
KINGSHILL, St. Croix ? Marquette freshman Ted Gray continued to lead the team in scoring, placing 17th through 36 of 54 holes at the St. Croix Collegiate Classic. Gray's play led Marquette to an eighth place standing through two rounds.
Marquette shot a 288 in the first 18, placing fifth. A 296 in the second round put Marquette's score at eight-over, 584. The Golden Eagles are 14 strokes behind Xavier, who leads the event, and are 11 shots behind Lamar and Rhode Island, who are in second.
Gray fired even par rounds in each of the first two rounds, scoring 144 through 36 holes. He's in 17th place.
Junior Kyle Murphy placed in 37th place after shooting a one-under, 71 in the first round. Through two rounds, he sits at three-over, 147, and is in 37th place. Junior Steve Sass and sophomore Michael Bielawski are in a tie for 38th place at four-over, 148. Junior Joe Weber rounds out the Marquette field, placing 51st with a 150.
Play in the 54-hole tournament concludes on Sunday, March 6.
