The Marquette volleyball team continues its spring season on Saturday, April 16, with the second Marquette Spring Challenge at the Al McGuire Center. Joining Marquette in the four-team tournament are Minnesota, Northern Michigan and North Dakota State.
Action kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with Marquette taking on North Dakota State and Minnesota playing Northern Michigan. At 10:15, Marquette plays Northern Michigan and Minnesota meets North Dakota State. The tournament concludes at 1:15 p.m. with Northern Michigan meeting North Dakota State and Marquette taking on Minnesota. All matches are best three out of five to 30 points, just like the regular season.
This is the third date of play for Marquette in its spring season. The schedule has allowed the team to improve its play while getting younger players more experience.
"I'm confident in where the team has progressed so far this spring," head coach Pati Rolf said. "We're seeing great progress from the younger players, and watching the maturity and development of the older players is great. With the level of play that we've faced so far this spring, we have a good understanding of where we are and where we need to improve."
Prior to the 1:15 p.m. matches, Marquette volleyball will host a clinic targeted for pre-high school aged children. The clinic starts at noon and runs until 1 p.m.
"We're excited to host another clinic," Rolf said. "We're giving children the opportunity to spend the day with the Marquette volleyball team and enjoy the Marquette/Minnesota match. We always look forward to this type of event."
Marquette will conclude its spring season on April 23 at the Networker Classic in Champaign, Ill.
