Track team competes at the Pacesetter Invitational

Friday afternoon the teams got off to a fast start as the women and men ended the first day of competition in second and third place, respectively. On the first day of competition Emily Leklem extended her streak of first place finishes on the young outdoor season to four with a victory in the shot put. After breaking the school record last weekend Emily came out trying to best herself once again. Her toss of 146?04.25? earned the women ten points in the event.
Senior Andrea Engelmann grabbed five points in the hammer throw with a distance of 170?04.? Jessica Ehlen also received two points in the event. Also on Friday, MU?s Charles Mashozhera took second in the triple jump with a leap of 48?00.75.? This was good for eight points in the event.
Jonathan Rosploch also earned points on Friday, taking third in the shot put and eighth in the hammer throw. His attempts gained seven points for the men while Damian Anisko placed seventh in the hammer throw.
On Saturday when action resumed, Christina Andalcio-O?Neil grabbed two fourth place finishes in two events. Her 12.17-seconds in the 100 meters and 25.2-seconds in the 200 meters garnered five points each.
In the 800 meters, freshman Cassie Peller placed second with a time of 2:13.95. Kaitlyn Chambers also earned points in the event with a fourth place finish.
Another second place finish was turned in by Brianna Dahm in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Her time of 11:04.59 was good enough for eight points in the event while Theresa Emond and Tara Hinke gained a total of ten points combined in the event. In the 1500 Michaela Courtney and Shannon Oster placed second and fourth respectively with times of 4:32.81 and 4:42.90.
Susana Emond and Allison Sauer also gained points for the women in the 5000 meters finishing third and fourth.
On the men?s side Saturday, freshman Jed Burey ran the 800 meters in 1:53.78, good enough for eight points while Tommy Schmitz and David Henderson both finished in the top eight thus earning points for the Golden Eagles.
Three other second place finishes on the day were turned in the 3000 meter steeplechase, javelin throw and 4x400 relay. In the 3000 meter steeplechase Jeremy Williams ran a 9:30.27. Matt Piekarski finished second in the javelin throw with a heave of 173?08.? Freshman Raymond Bratchett?s jump of 6?02.75? garnered four points with a fifth place finish. He also took ninth in the 400 meter hurdles.
The Golden Eagles return to action next weekend in Champaign, Illinois for the Central Collegiate Conference meet.
