Volleyball To Hold Banquet

The Marquette volleyball team will hold its banquet on Saturday, April 30 at the Al McGuire Center. The banquet won't be the traditional awards type dinner that a team usually has at the end of the season. This will focus on the seniors and their accomplishments in their four years.
"I never felt good about receiving an award," head coach Pati Rolf said. "Volleyball is about a team sport and this is about the team."
While being a senior oriented affair, Rolf said it was easy not to give out awards due to the balanced nature of the team this season.
"We didn't have a major leader," Rolf said. "Without the play of everyone out there, we wouldn't have accomplished the things that we did. It was a team effort this season."
Despite the nature of the team, three players will be the focus of the evening. Those three players are the seniors ? Erin Freer, Sarah Vernon and Erica Heisser.
Freer concluded her career as Marquette's all-time leading dig specialist. Heisser and Vernon also found their names in the top 10 at Marquette. Heisser was among the most accurate in school history, while Vernon's setting ability and accuracy landed her in the top 10 in the school categories. The evening will also showcase the 2004 season.
"The night is about defining our seniors," Rolf said. "We will also celebrate the success of 2004 and show what we hope to accomplish in the future."
Rolf said she is also excited about the growth of program.
"This program depends on outside support," Rolf said. "We need to have our future fanatics, donors, students and supporters come. They make a difference to our student-athletes."
