Golden Eagles compete at the Mike Poehlien Invitational

On the day MU teams turned in ten top-three finishes, five by both the women and men. Starting the day off was the women?s hammer throw where Andrea Engelmann and Jessica Ehlen threw their way to a fifth and eighth place finish respectively.
After winning the 100 and 200 meters last weekend at South Alabama, Crystal Andalico-O?Neal paced the Marquette women in those two events. Her 12.03, 100 meters was good for second place barely behind LaShauna Harris of host Purdue who ran a 12-flat, three-hundredths of a second ahead of Crystal.
Also competing in the event were Lucky Denenga, Christina Flowers, and Brynn Kosmoski who finished in 13th, 19th and 24th, respectively.
In the 200 meters Crystal?s 24.89 was good for fifth place while four other MU runners competed in the race.
In the 800 meters, freshman Cassie Peller led the women with a time of 2:19.04, good enough for third place in the event. Just behind her, running a 2:21.32 was her classmate Kaitlyn Chambers finishing in fifth place, followed by thirteenth-place finisher Christina LeDonne.
After winning the 3000 meters last weekend, Jodi Jakubek, turned in a top-three finish for the women running the 5000 meters in 17:37.73. She was followed in the event by five teammates who all finished in the top-ten.
Sophomore Michaela Courtney placed fourth this weekend in the 1500 meters, running a 4:47.02 followed by teammate Shannon Oster who placed eighth.
The 4x400 meter relay capped off the day for the Marquette women with a third place finish. Crystal Andalico-O?Neal rounded off an excellent all-around performance running the first leg of the race with teammates Lauren Chimielewski, Christina LeDonne, and Kristina Malin following.
The lone winner on the day for Marquette came in the women?s shot put where school record-holder Emily Leklem won with a heave of 45-04.25.
In other women?s field events Kristen Stoniecki finished fourth in the pole vault, Jessica Ehlen took 10th place in the discus and Christina Flowers effort in the long jump was good for 13th.
On the men?s side junior Jon Shaffer had the best overall day taking third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.55 and grabbed second place in the 4x400 meter relay running the anchor leg with relay partners Jed Burey, Jacob Sienko, and Ryan Seebruck. Burey and Seebruck also paced Marquette runners in the 200 and 400 meter dashes. Burey turned in a 50.36 in the 400 good for sixth while Shaffer placed ninth. In the 200 Seebruck took seventh running a 22.22.
Freshman Joseph Pierre ran a 1:55.54 in the 800 meters, good enough for fourth place in the event.
In other track events for the men Jeremy Williams garnered third place in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a 9:33.8. Senior Jonathan Rosploch grabbed second place in the shot put (51-07.25) and finished in seventh place in the hammer throw (161-01). In the javelin throw, Matt Piekarski?s throw of about 50.5 meters at 165-08 managed to score him a third place finish.
The Marquette track and field teams compete again this weekend (April 8-9) at the EIU Big Classic at Charleston State
