Drake Relays conclude after four event-filled days

Des Moines, Iowa- Saturday concluded a very impressive weekend for the Golden Eagles on the track. The Drake Relays always provide top-notch competition and Marquette proved they could hold their own against some of the top programs in the country.
Saturday, junior Jon Shaffer, who provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 800 meters, finished third in the event this weekend. His time of 1:51.02 was only one-tenth of a second behind the second place finisher who registered a 1:50.92.
In the men?s distance medley, Andy Lelinski, Ryan Seebruck, Joe Pierre and David Henderson took home seventh place, finishing the race in 10:02.41.
Senior Charles Mashozhera competed in the triple jump and finished 13th with a leap of 48?03.25.?
Also finishing 13th was Michaela Courtney who finished with a time of four minutes and 44 seconds in the 1500 meters.

Also on the weekend, the remaining team that did not travel to the Drake Relays headed to Illinois State to compete in the Redbird Invitational.
On the day the Marquette team turned in five first-place finishes as well as five second-place finishes.
In the women?s discus Jessica Ehlen won with a distance of 140-08. Ehlen also competed in the hammer throw where she registered a throw of 147- 10, which earned her a ninth-place finish. Also in the hammer throw was Andrea Engelmann who finished second after a launch of 170-00.
Senior Emily Leklem, who has had a stellar outdoor season thus far finished third in the shot put after a heave of 46-08.75.
On the men?s side for the field events, Jonathan Rosploch placed second in the shotput with a distance of 54-01.25. Rosploch also competed in the javelin and placed fourth with a throw of 163-04.
Damian Anisko finished fourth in the hammer throw after a throw of 169-02.
In the men?s high jump, freshman Raymond Bratchett finished in second at a height of 6-04.75. Bratchett also took place in the 400-meter hurdles running a 55.64, that time earned him a victory in the event.
Marquette dominated the 3000-meter steeplechase on both the men and women?s side. On both sides the men and the women took home the top two places in the events. For the women Theresa Emond and Tara Hinke finished in first and second, respectively, with times of 10:56.88 and 11:19.51. Jeremy Williams took first for the men with a time of 9:31.05 and Kyle Saginus took second place after running a 9:48.15.
In the women?s 100 meters, Crystal Andalcio-O?Neil sprinted her way to third place with a time of 12.46 and Lucky Denenga ran a 12.68 to finish fifth. Andalico-O?Neil and Denenga also took third and fifth place in the 200 meters running a 25.50 and 25.92, respectively.
The 5000-meter run also provided a victory for the women. Jodi Jakubek won with a time of 17:27.60. Allison Sauer also competed in the event and finished fourth with a time of 18:03.40.
The Golden Eagles return to action next Saturday at the Wisconsin Twilight in Madison.
