MILWAUKEE ? Members of the Marquette women's basketball team paid a visit to Holy Family Parrish School in return for the school's attendance at women's basketball games during the season. The school had the highest attendance of any among the Milwaukee Archdiocese schools. As a result, the students were treated to time with the team.
Head coach Terri Mitchell and seven returning members of the team ? Danielle Kamm, Carolyn Kieger, Efueko Osagie, Tierra Shirley, Amber Johnson, Christina Quaye and Svetlana Kovalanko ? treated the students to demonstrations, speaking and contests.
The day started out with the Kindergarten through fourth grade classes as part of the demonstration. Activities that the students participated in included a dribbling contest and a race with students putting on game jerseys and shoes to make a layup. Osagie talked about how college offers her the opportunity to see the country and meet people from different parts of the United States.
After the first session, the upper grades came in and were treated to a new set of games and speakers.
Mitchell addressed the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade classes and warned them about the dangers of mixing with the wrong group of friends and told them to keep striving hard at school.
Kieger also talked about what kind of effort it takes to be a collegiate student-athlete on the highest level.
The students competed in a consecutive free throws made contest and a two-ball shooting game with Marquette team members.
