Golden Eagles play Billikens on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Valley Fields
MILWAUKEE ? The Marquette women's soccer team ends nearly two weeks of training to meet its first opponent of the 2005 season. Its foe is a familiar one. Saint Louis, a former conference mate of Marquette, heads to Valley Fields for an exhibition contest on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. Admission to the match is free.
Coming off a 12-8-1 season, Marquette enters its first year as a member of the BIG EAST Conference. The Golden Eagles will get the chance to test what they have been working on for the past 10 days in the friendly with Saint Louis.
"It's great in that it gives us a chance to play against someone else," head coach Markus Roeders said. "We only have a week to get ready for our first game against a very tough Illinois team, so this will be a good opportunity for us in our preparation for the regular season."
Saint Louis has already played an exhibition game, defeating Evansville, 3-1, on Tuesday night.
Marquette opens the regular season on Friday, Aug. 26 at 8:15 p.m., hosting Illinois in the second match of the 2005 Milwaukee Cup.
