Marquette senior part of USASA national team
MILWAUKEE ? Marquette senior Sarah Uyenishi was part of the Women's National Select team that played two contests in Mexico against the Mexican National Team.
The USASA team won its first game on July 21 in Jalapa, Mexico, but lost the second game, 1-0.
The squad consisted of 12 players that were selected through a tryout procedure at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Uyenishi and teammate Lindsay Michuda were selected to tryout. Uyenishi was the only representative from the midwest region.
"It was definitely the best soccer experience I've ever had," Uyenishi told the Pioneer Press, a suburban Chicago newspaper. "It was great seeing people so excited about soccer down there. And for me it was a thrill to be around players who are so good."
It was Uyenishi's first experience with a national team and her first time to play abroad.
She also was part of the USASA National Cup Champion Chicago Eclipse club team which won the women's amateur title on August 7. She played with teammate Christy Zwolksi.
