The Marquette women's basketball team returns home to the Al McGuire Center tonight, after a two-game road swing, to host Pittsburgh in a BIG EAST matchup at 7 p.m. This is the first time both teams have met on the hardwood.
The Golden Eagles (11-4, 2-2 BIG EAST) are coming off a 71-57 win at Syracuse on Saturday, Jan. 14. Jasmine McCullough led the way, tying her career-high with 19 points, while also adding seven boards and a collegiate-best four blocked shots. Krystal Ellis (15 points) and Christina Quaye (14 points) also tallied double-figures in scoring. Additionally, with her five assists, Carolyn Kieger passed the 600 career assist mark, joining Joan Pitrof as one of the only two players in the history of the program to achieve such a statistical milestone. The win for MU snapped a three-game slide, dating back to Virginia on Jan. 4.
Pittsburgh (12-4, 3-2) enters tonight's game ahead of Marquette in the BIG EAST standings. The Panthers downed Providence, 75-65, at home at the Peterson Events Center, this past Saturday. Sophomore Marcedes Walker and junior Mallorie Winn combined for 44 points in the victory over Providence as the duo is leading Pitt offensively this season. Walker is averaging 17.5 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, while Winn is scoring at a 15.9 points per game clip. Two others are averaging more than nine points per game and Pittsburgh is outrebounding its opponents by 5.2.
