Women's Tennis Falls at no. 53 Illinois, 6-1, In Season Opener

The Illini swept the doubles matches to win the doubles point, but it came not without a fight from the Golden Eagles. At no. 1 doubles the tandem of Maria Calbeto and Lauren Little was upended by the duo of Brianna Knue and Macall Harkins, 9-7. At no. 3 doubles, Erin Watkins and Andrea Bukacek battled Shivani Dave? and Alejandra Meza but fell 9-8 (2).
Calbeto won at no. 1 singles, to give Marquette its lone point of the match, defeating Hawkins, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 13-11, in an intense match up. However, the Golden Eagles were unable to win another singles match. Francina Bonnelly gave Emily Wang a fight at the fourth singles spot, but came up short losing, 7-5, 1-6, 8-10.
The Golden Eagles return to action at Iowa on January 27, in Iowa City at 6 p.m.
