Novak, James Sweep BIG EAST Weekly Awards

Duo win Player, Rookie of the Week
MILWAUKEE ? For the first time in its short history in the BIG EAST, two Marquette men?s basketball players sweep the conference?s weekly awards. For the second time this season, senior Steve Novak was named BIG EAST Player of the Week. For the third time this year, freshman Dominic James was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week.
Novak averaged 26.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and hit a game-winning basket in a 2-0 week. He also shot 59.4 percent from the floor and 60 percent from three-point range. His basket with 1.1 seconds left gave MU a 67-65 victory over Notre Dame. He finished the contest with 28 points. Earlier in the week, Novak had 24 points in an 82-79 triumph at DePaul. In each game, the senior grabbed six rebounds and shot 6-of-10 from 3-point range. This season, Novak is averaging a team-leading 16.9 points per game. Additionally, Novak passed the 300 career three point field goals made mark with 303 in his career. He is one of four active players to have that many career three point field goals.
James takes rookie honors for the second week in a row after averaging 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in a 2-0 week for the Golden Eagles. James scored a career-high 29 points in an 82-79 win at DePaul. In a 67-65 triumph over Notre Dame, James had 11 points, six assists and five rebounds. For the week, he shot 55.6 percent from the field. For the season, James is averaging 15.2 points and 5.7 assists.
Marquette returns to action on Wednesday, January 25, hosting DePaul at the Bradley Center at 7 p.m.
