MILWAUKEE - Terri Mitchell is heading into her 11th season as the Marquette Women's Basketball head coach. She is the winningest coach in Marquette history. She has 191 wins. She was a two-time Conference USA Coach of the Year. Marquette has been in post-season play eight out of the 10 years Terri has been at the helm. She has also signed a contract extension through the 2012-2013 season.
Welcome to my first ever online journal... I know that sounds a little strange for someone that only uses her computer to email, but I want to give our fans an inside look at the 2006-2007 Marquette Women's Basketball team.
Last year we had great support from our student body, especially during our WNIT run. I thought what better way to reconnect with the students than toast marshmallows for s'mores, grill hot dogs and hand out donuts. I even stayed overnight in a RV on campus! We called it "Camp Out with Terri"... original don't you think? What a great way to kick off our season! We all had a blast!
We had our first official practice last Saturday. Our team is going to have a little bit of a different look this year. We want to push the ball in transition, score a ton of points, defend with tenacity, crash the boards hard, and Win!! Ok... so I guess every coach has those dreams... and we're confident we have the tools to do it! We have an awesome senior class that really wants to do well in the Big East!
? Christina Quaye or better known as "Q"... should have an unbelievable senior year! She has been an all-conference player for us each season! Q is one of the strongest players I've ever coached. She is one of our go-to players! Basically she's a stud!
? Danielle Kamm or as we call her "DK"... should have a breakout year! She's incredible. She can score at will... whether it's a 3, a mid-range jumper, or sweet turn-around! She should make some noise in the Big East!
? Jasmine McCullough or "J" if you will... is the heart and soul of this squad! She does little things for this team that makes a huge difference. She is our court leader!
? Efueko Osagie-Landry and surprise... we call her "E"... is back and ready to go! She has a renewed passion and intensity to get this team going in the right direction. She is as athletic as they come... she's a great defender and like to beat people to the bucket!
Along with these seniors we return a group of outstanding players. There isn't a player on this team that will not contribute this season. Tune in next week to learn more about them.
P.S. Check out the photo galleries from the camp-out and Fan Fest!
