St. Thomas, V.I. - We are finally here! It was a long flight but once we got off the plane into 86 degree heat and sunshine, it was worth it. Everything about the Virgin Islands - from what we saw out of our open air taxi ride to the hotel - is beautiful. We will enjoy the next five days here and play some great basketball.
Our fans, friends and family of the team were at the hotel to welcome us. It was great to see so many familiar faces. I was especially happy to have my two brothers and sister and their families along to watch us and celebrate Thanksgiving. I love my brothers and sister dearly, but I think I was most thrilled to see my niece Kylie. She is almost three years old and just so adorable.
We got off the plane, sort of settled in the hotel. We had about 15 minutes to breathe and then headed for the University of the Virgin Islands, where we will be playing our three games, for a quick shoot around just to stretch our legs. The staff took on the players in a shooting contest. I was lucky enough to officiate all of the excitement. It was a hard fought battle, but in the end the staff won, well so they think. It was all good fun though.
Now it is down to business. Three games in three days, wow, that is a lot. But I think we are ready We are really focused on what we need to do on the court. We are coming off a win over Green Bay and we are going to take all of the positive things we did and learned from that game and transfer it to these next three games. The next three games will play down here will tell us a lot about the character of our team. We will play three very different teams out of the SEC, the MAC and the A-10. It is a cornucopia of basketball - I think I just wanted to tie in basketball with Thanksgiving by using the word cornucopia.
So tomorrow, it will be an early morning. We are going to get some practice in, but then have some fun. Wednesday, before we get down to business on the hardwood, we are going snorkeling during the day and then the kind folks who put on the Paradise Jam have a welcome party for all of the teams a top a mountain.
Check back tomorrow to see how our second day in Paradise went!
