Krystal Ellis Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

MILWAUKEE - Sophomore Krystal Ellis was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the week of Dec. 4, announced by conference officials. Ellis, a key contributor to Marquette's back-to-back wins over Wis.-Milwaukee and Rice, averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and contributed eight steals and six assists for the week.
The Racine native scored 19 points on 50 percent shooting from the field (6-of-12), grabbed seven rebounds and dished four assists in the Golden Eagles defeat of crosstown rival Wis.-Milwaukee on Wednesday, Nov. 29. She followed that performance up with season high 26 points and a career best six steals at Rice on Sunday, Dec. 3. 20 of Ellis' points came in the first half while making all eight of her attempts from the floor.
Ellis leads Marquette with 16.8 ppg and 3.5 assists per game ranking her ninth and 12th in the BIG EAST, respectively. From the free throw line Ellis has been consistent converting a team leading 82.5 percent of her attempts (33-of-40), which also ranks her eighth in the conference.
Ellis is the second Golden Eagle to be named to the weekly honor roll as senior Christina Quaye was selected last week.
Also announced on Monday, the Marquette women's basketball team jumped into the Associate Press poll Monday at no. 24. It is the first time Marquette has been ranked in the AP poll since 2000. The Golden Eagles were no. 24 in both the coaches' and AP poll on February 28, 2000.
Marquette will open BIG EAST play hosting West Virginia on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Al McGuire Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday is dollar day! All tickets, hotdogs, soda and candy are just $1.
