Volleyball Picks Up Two All-BIG EAST Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Marquette Volleyball team picked up two BIG EAST honors tonight at the 2005 BIG EAST Volleyball Banquet as sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker Kim Todd was named First Team All-BIG EAST and senior outside hitter Theresa Coughlin was named to the second team.
"Both of these girls are very deserving of these honors," said head coach Pati Rolf. Kim had a phenomenal end to the season and just come into her own after moving to middle blocker. Theresa continues to just bring solid play and consistent leadership to the floor every day. I couldn't be prouder of the both of them."
Todd, who earned back-to-back BIG EAST Player of the Week honors on October 31 and November 7, ranks second on the team in kills per game (3.43) and third among Marquette players with .70 blocks per game and 73 blocks for the season. The sophomore has hit an average of .200 on the season. She nailed a school record 35 kills against Seton Hall on Nov. 4
Coughlin broke Chris Curtin's all-time kills record against North Dakota State on August 26 and currently has 1,702 kills for her career. She leads the team with 4.09 kills per game and ranks sixth in the conference in that same category. Coughlin earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors on August 29.
Notre Dame's Debbie Brown was named coach of the year, and Louisville's Lena Ustymenko was named player of the year. Pittsburgh's Megan McGrane was named libero of the year and Cincinnati's Jessie Nevitt earned rookie of the year honors.
The Golden Eagles will kick-off BIG EAST tournament action tomorrow when they take on second seeded and seventh ranked Louisville at 6 p.m. EST at the Kentucky Convention Center.
