Marquette's James Named Rookie of the Year

MILWAUKEE - Freshman Dominic James was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, the league office announced.
James, Marquette's freshman point guard, has guided the Golden Eagles to a 20-9 record, including a 10-6 BIG EAST mark. A native of Richmond, Ind., James was the league's top freshman scorer all season. He is averaging 16.4 points per game, which is ninth in the league. His assist average of 5.0 ranks fifth.
Additionally, James was named to the 25-man Collegeinsider.com Freshman All-American team today.
Marquette opens up BIG EAST Tournament play on Thursday, March 9 in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals, playing the winner of Georgetown/Notre Dame at 2 p.m. EST at Madison Square Garden in New York.
