MILWAUKEE - Over 250 kids as well as 14 teams highlighted a very successful 2006 summer of volleyball camps at Marquette University. Head coach Pati Rolf, hosting her fifth camp, was thrilled with the turnout and ability of not only the athletes, but the coaches as well.
"This is the largest number of participants we have had in the history of the program, with some of the top coaches in the Midwest and nationally," said Rolf. "Out team camp featured some state championship teams as well as some newcomers. This was one of the best summer of camps on record."
Three sessions of camp were held throughout the month of July. The first, a camp for third through eighth grader, sold out at 120 kids and was designed with a focus on individual skill and basic fundamental improvement for youth. The next camp featured students in grades nine through 12. Over 135 participated in this specialty camp that focused on the individual areas players may need extra work in as well as match play. Fourteen high school teams participated in the final camp, a session focused on instruction as well as getting teams ready for their fall seasons.
"This years camps really showcased what is fun about summer camps and clinics," added Rolf. "We hosted some of the top collegiate, high school, junior and college coaches to work with our campers. We kept our coaches to campers ratio at 1-to-8 and that made all the difference as kids received a great deal of one-on-one work. It was a very positive experience for all."
