Marquette Trio Leads Club Team to National Championship

Three members of the Marquette women's soccer team - Meghan Connelly, Lauren Weber, and Christy Zwolski - helped lead their club - Eclipse Select - to the 2006 USASA National Cup Championship in the women's amateur division.
On Friday, Aug. 4, the Eclipse Select downed the German Hungarians, from Pennsylvania, 5-0. Lauren Weber tallied two of the team's first three goals, both assisted by Christy Zwolski. Zwolski also added a tally, with the assist coming from Weber.
In the finals on Sunday, Aug. 6, Zwolski tallied the game-winning goal in overtime, as the Eclipse Select downed the Hibernian Saints, from Washington state, 1-0.
Each of the rounds of the National Cup were held at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Tex. - the home of FC Dallas of Major League Soccer.
The Golden Eagles open training camp this week and will play an exhibition game at Illinois on Friday, Aug. 18. MU opens 2006 regular season play a week later, on Aug. 25 at home against Bowling Green in the opener of the Milwaukee Cup.
