Ellis Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

MILWAUKEE - Sophomore guard Krystal Ellis was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll announced Monday, Jan. 22, by conference officials. This Ellis' fifth selection this season and the team's eighth.
Ellis scored 24 points including the go-ahead lay-up with 10.9 seconds left in the game to help Marquette defeat Providence, 79-77. She shot 4-of-7 in the first half, all four of her made attempts were three pointers, and ended the game, 8-of-19 from the floor (42.1 percent for the game).
She matched her season high five treys for the second time this season and also matched her career best seven assists all while not committing a turnover. It was the second BIG EAST game this season Ellis did not turn the ball over.
Her 24 points at Providence marked her seventh game of double figure scoring this season and fourth straight game of 20 or more points. Ellis leads the team in scoring with 19.3 ppg., an average that puts her second on the leaderboard in scoring in conference games.
Ellis joins DePaul's Caprice Smith, Connecticut's Mel Thomas, Marcedes Walker of Pitt and Louisville's Angel McCoughtry on the weekly honor roll.
In other women's basketball news, Marquette improved two spots to no. 17 in the Associated Press poll released this afternoon. The Golden Eagles are the second highest BIG EAST team ranked in the poll. UConn is the highest ranked conference team at no. 7.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 23, against Notre Dame. The game will be broadcast live on CSTV.
