Women's Soccer Named NSCAA College Team Academic Award Winner

MILWAUKEE - With a team cumulative grade point average of 3.41, the Marquette women's soccer team was named a NSCAA College Team Academic Award Winner. Juniors Laura Boyer and Christy Zwolski earned individual honors as they were named Honorable Mention NSCAA/adidas All-Central Region selections. It is the 11th consecutive year the Golden Eagles have won the team award.
"Congratulations to Laura, Christy and our entire team," said head coach Markus Roeders. "Our players continue tostrive forexcellence in the classroom, on the field and in the community. We are proud to have earned the team academic award for the eleventh consecutive year. Combining our academic excellence with our athletic accomplishments puts us among an elite group of programs in the country."
Boyer, finance and marketing major with overall grade-point average of 3.76, posted 70 saves for the 2006 the season, six shutouts and goals against average of 0.74, a mark that ranked her sixth in the BIG EAST. She was named the BIG EAST's Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 25 after posting back-to-back shutouts against then no. 12 Connecticut (1-0) and Providence (2-0). Boyer ranks fifth all-time on Marquette's saves list with 182 and tied for third all-time with 14 shutouts.
Zwolski, an exercise science major, holds a 3.76 grade-point average and finished the 2006 season as the team's second leading scorer, with 19 points on seven goals and five assists.
It is the second academic honor for Boyer and Zwolski this season as they were both named to the CoSIDA and ESPN the Magazine First Team Academic All-District Five Team.
