New York, NY - The Marquette University men's basketball team has been picked to finish third in the league according to the 2007-08 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Golden Eagles collected 191 points, just behind preseason co-favorites Georgetown and Louisville, which each earned 217 points in the balloting. Fourth-place Pittsburgh received 170 points. The league's 16 head coaches did not place their own teams on their respective ballots.
"If you have any question about the depth of this league, all you have to do is look at the preseason poll and you will see quality teams like Providence and West Virginia ranked eighth and 10th," head coach Tom Crean said. "Adding two more games to the league schedule is going to make things even tougher."
Juniors Dominic James and Jerel McNeal were tabbed to the 11-member Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. No school had more than two players on the squad.
Marquette has been a consensus top-15 pick in preseason publications, with most top-25 projections featuring at least five BIG EAST Conference programs.
