BIG EAST Tournament Game Notes
MILWAUKEE - The no. 23/19 Marquette women's basketball team will make its second appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Conn., March 3-6. The Golden Eagles (24-5, 12-4 BIG EAST) enter tournament as the no. three seed, five spots higher than predicted in the preseason by the league's coaches. Marquette has earned a first round bye and will not play until the quarterfinal round on Sunday, March 4, at 8 p.m., a day later than the five through 12 seeds. The Golden Eagles will meet Pittsburgh, the victor of its first round game over Cincinnati, 76-71.
"It is extremely important for us to have the opportunity to have the first day off and have another chance to scout our opponent," said head coach Terri Mitchell. "It makes it a little easier when you are aiming towards the championship to play three games instead of four. This was definitely a goal for our team from the start of the season. It feels good to know you can accomplish this in such a great league."
Should Marquette advance past its quarterfinal round game, it would play on Monday, March 5 at 8 p.m. ET against the winner of the the third quarterfinal featuring no. 2 seeded Rutgers versus DePaul.
The championship game is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. ET.
