AL McGUIRE CENTER - Entry 12 -- Long Time No Blog! -- February 6, 2007
Long time... no blog! That is what happens this time of the year. One day runs into the next and you turn around and a couple of weeks have just gone by. To say we are busy this time of year is an understatement. There has been lots of recruiting to occupy our time as well as keeping the team going in the right direction.
Last week was tough. First losing at Rutgers then losing to UConn at home was hard for all of us. We competed hard, but needed to be smarter. We came out of both games with many lessons to be learned. Its never to late to get better and February is a critical month. It is a long season, but it's up to my staff and I to keep it fresh at practice. We are changing up drills and tapping into their competitive spirits by making things difficult yet attainable. When they accomplish the task, the excitement is contagious.
I wish we didn't have a week to wait to play - everyone wants to compete now. However, the other part of me thinks the week will be good. We have a lot to do and playing on the road is never easy. So, with that said, we need to have an excellent week of preparing for Georgetown.
Speaking of Georgetown, it's not too far from my hometown of Harrisburg, Pa. My family and friends will be coming to the game on Saturday - that is what's great about the BIG EAST. So many schools are close, and my family and friends in turn get to enjoy seeing the team I love to coach.
Not much more to report. It's all about finishing strong and taking the team to another level this time of year. When it's September and preseason workouts are starting, February seems so far away. Now that it's here, I can honestly say it has gone fast. There is still a lot of basketball to be played and great things to accomplish. I am fired up and excited about leading this team down the stretch. I will try to be better about blogging. I sure won't win any awards for consistency will I?
Did you know that the "Terri Mitchell" bobblehead was given away on Saturday. I still think it is pretty crazy to see my head bobbing all over the place. Now, if I could just get it to blog, we'd be in good shape!
