James, McNeal Named to All-BIG EAST Teams

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomores Dominic James and Jerel McNeal were named to the BIG EAST All-Conference teams, the league announced Monday. James was a first-team selection and McNeal was voted to the second team.
James is Marquette's leading scorer at 14.9 points per game and he leads the Golden Eagles in assists with 4.9 per game. Both totals are among the league leaders. James is 10th in the BIG EAST in scoring and fourth in the league in assists. He is coming off a career high 10 assists against Pittsburgh, improving his league average to 5.4 assists per game. James also ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in steals at 1.94 per game and fifth in assist-to-turnover ration at 1.97.
McNeal is second on the team in scoring at 14.7 points per game, but is the team leader in scoring in BIG EAST games at 14.9 per game. One of the best defenders in the league, McNeal ranks among the national leaders in steals with 76. He is second in the BIG EAST in steals per game at 2.6. McNeal is one of only three players in the country this season to average at least 14 points per game, grab four rebounds per game, average 3.5 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
Individual awards will be named later in the days leading up to the 2007 BIG EAST Championship presented by Aeropostale. Marquette is the tournament's sixth seed and will play 11th seeded St. John's at 9 p.m. (EST) in the first round on Wednesday, March 7 in Madison Square Garden in New York on ESPN and ESPN360. The winner of that game will advance to the quarterfinal round to take on third-seed Pittsburgh at 9 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, March 8. Marquette has not played St. John's this season. The Golden Eagles have two wins over Pittsburgh this year.
