Sophomore Dominic James was named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-District V Team, announced Wednesday. James was one of 10 NCAA Division I student-athletes selected from the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
The selections are determined based on voting done by the association's national membership.
James is Marquette's leading scorer at 14.9 points per game and he leads the Golden Eagles in assists with 4.9 per game. Both totals are among the leaders in the BIG EAST. James is 10th in the conference in scoring and fourth in the league in assists. He is coming off a career high 10 assists against Pittsburgh, improving his league average to 5.4 assists per game. James also ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in steals at 1.94 per game and fifth in assist-to-turnover ration at 1.97.
Steve Novak received the honor last season. In 2003, Dwyane Wade was named a USBWA First Team All-American.
The No. 18/19 men's basketball team begins postseason play as the No. 6 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament, Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST, when it takes on No. 11 seed St. John's. The Golden Eagles (23-8, 10-6) face the Red Storm (16-14, 7-9) at Madison Square Garden in New York, N.Y., with the winner advancing to face the No. 3 seed, No. 13/11 Pittsburgh (25-6, 12-4), Thursday, in the quarterfinals.
