Golfers In Third at BIG EAST Championship

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - The Marquette men's golf team held on to its third place standing through two rounds at the BIG EAST Championships in Simpsonville, Ky.
The Golden Eagles shot 294 to move to eight-over, 584. Marquette passed St. John's, who slipped to fifth place, but were passed by Notre Dame, who sits in second at two-over, 578. Louisville is the tournament leader at 14-under, 562.
Sophomore Mike Van Sickle, the tournament leader after the first round, fell to a tie for fifth place following the second round. Van Sickle carded two birdies on the day, but two bogies and an eight on the par-four 14th gave him a 76 on the day. Van Sickle is at two-under, 142 through 36 holes.
The tournament is led by Louisville's Daryl Fathauer, who is at five-under, 139. Two other Louisville players -- Adam Hadwin and Adam Rauinaud -- along with Notre Dame's Adam Gifford are tied for second at three-under.
Junior Mike Bielawski had a good day to shoot up the standings. He, along with junior Ted Gray, are tied for 13th place. Bielawski carded a 70 for the second round to move up to three-over, 147. Consistent play was key for Bielawski, who had 14 pars on the day. Gray shot a two-over 74 on the day. Three birdies balanced three pars, but a six on the par-four 10th was the difference in his day.
Sophomore Dustin Schwab also scored 74 in the second round. He is at five-over, 149 and in a tie for 19th. He moved up three spots with his score. Freshman Ben Sieg got off to a rough start going five-over in the first five holes. He finished with an 81 on the day. After 36 holes, he is in 52nd place at 13-over, 157.
