Milwaukee - Sophomore guard David Cubillan of the Marquette men's basketball program has seen his summer duties with the Venezuelan National Team come to an end and he will return to the Golden Eagles in time for the start of classes later this month.
Cubillan had earned a spot on the roster earlier this summer after going through the tryout process and had been traveling with the team for international action in preparation for the FIBA Americas Championship 2007 in Last Vegas this month. The squad's action included stops in China for the Stankovic Continental Cup and in Spain for an exhibition matchup.
"It is unfortunate that David will not be able to continue to represent his country at this time, which I know is very important to him," head coach Tom Crean said. "We are hopeful the opportunity will return in the near future. He has had an outstanding summer and we look forward to his return."
Classes at Marquette begin on August 27 and the team will travel to Vancouver on Labor Day weekend for a four-game foreign tour, which Cubillan will now be able to participate in.
Cubillan saw action in 34 games as a freshman with the Golden Eagles in 2006-07, concluding the year averaging 5.5 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. He shot 42.5 percent from behind the 3-point line, knocking down 48-of-113 attempts.
