MILWAUKEE - Head women's basketball coach Terri Mitchell announced the hiring of former Marquette players Carolyn Kieger and Jasmine McCullough to her staff. Kieger was named director of basketball operations and McCullough was named assistant director of basketball operations.
Kieger will be responsible for the team's film exchange, as well as assisting with video editing for opponent scouting purposes. She will also help to coordinate Marquette women's basketball summer camps and assist with team travel. As the assistant director of basketball operations, McCullough will be responsible for day-to-day administrative duties in the basketball office as well as assisting with team travel.
"It is an incredible advantage for our program to have two former players on our staff that have impacted our program as they did," said Mitchell "Both Carolyn and Jasmine are tremendous leaders in their own right and with such a young team it will be great to have the example of their work ethic our players."
Kieger returns to Marquette after spending one year at the University of Miami where she served as the Hurricanes' coordinator for program development for the 2006-07 season. In her role at Miami, Kieger worked along side the team's director of basketball operations and video coordinator. She assisted with film editing and scouting, recruiting, and team travel. She also helped coordinate the Miami women's basketball summer camps.
"Carolyn gained a lot of experience at the University of Miami and was able to be apart of ACC Basketball," said Mitchell. "For her to come back and to contribute to our program with the knowledge she gained is everything we are looking for. We are extremely excited to have her involved with our program again."
As a player at Marquette, Kieger was a four-year starter and Marquette's all-time assists leader. She is the only player in program history with at least 1,200 career points, 400 career rebounds and 600 assists. For her career, Kieger averaged 10.3 points per game and was a second team All-BIG EAST selection for the 2005-06 season. Kieger graduated with a bachelor's degree in communication in 2006. She received the McCahill Award given to MU's senior student-athlete who has demonstrated the highest performance in scholarship, leadership and athletics in 2007.
McCullough also enjoyed a successful career as a Golden Eagle. She was a four-year letter winner and two-year starter who averaged 6.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. On and off the court, McCullough was a major contributor to MU's success over her career and was a key player during Golden Eagles record breaking season in 2006-07. McCullough was a three-time recipient of the team's leadership award. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 2007.
"To have Jasmine's presence when our team is so young is great timing for us. The enthusiasm of both of them gives our staff incredible energy in this office. We love walking in everyday knowing the people that are committed to being champions are surrounding you," added Mitchell.
The Golden Eagles will open exhibition play at the Al McGuire Center on Saturday, Nov. 3, against Concordia (St. Paul) and commence the 2007 season hosting Loyola (Ill.) on Monday, Nov. 17, at The Al at 7 p.m.
