PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Following back-to-back 2-0 shutouts of Washington and Indiana State, sophomore Anna Sawicki was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. It is Sawicki's first ever BIG EAST honor.
Sawicki netted two goals and added one assist for five points on the weekend. She opened the season with her first multi-point game of her career registering a goal and an assist against Washington. She followed that performance up with a goal against Indiana State. Both goals were credited as game winners. Her five points thus far for the season match her total from 2006. She was one of three MU players named to the Milwaukee Cup All-Tournament Team.
"Congrats to Anna and our team," said head coach Markus Roeders. "We are excited to start the season 2-0 and Anna scored two terrific game-winners. She has worked hard this summer and it is paying off for her and us. She has a knack for scoring goals and we know she is eager to continue her streak."
Joining Sawicki on the Honor Roll was Jackie Desjardin (Georgetown), Alison Finch (Pittsburgh), Jonanna Haig (Louisville) and Jillian Loyden (Villanova). St. John's Krystle Jalaian was named offensive player of the week, Kaynce Blandford of Villanova was named defensive player of the week and Seton Hall's Amanda Becker was tabbed as goalkeeper of the week.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 6, when they host LaSalle at Valley Fields at 7 p.m.
