Marquette Opens Two-Game Road Trip at Louisville

The Marquette women's basketball team will look for its first road win in BIG EAST play when it heads to Louisville for a Wednesday night date with the Cardinals. The game is set to tip off at 6 p.m. CT at Freedom Hall.

The Golden Eagles (10-7, 2-2 BIG EAST) are coming off an 11-point victory of then No. 23/22 DePaul on Jan. 19, at the Al McGuire Center for its second win over a ranked opponent this season. Junior Krystal Ellis scored a team-high 16 points and freshman Angel Robinson added 13. Ellis currently leads the team with 19.7 ppg. Robinson is second in scoring with 9.3 ppg, and is third in the league in the steals category swiping 2.71.
Marquette has proved it can count on any of its players to score as its reserves have outscored its opponent's bench, 85-23, in conference play. Freshman Paige Fiedorowicz has averaged the highest point output of any reserve in BIG EAST play with 5.0 ppg. Redshirt freshman Jocelyn Mellen follows with 4.0 ppg.
Louisville (12-6, 1-4), losers of four of its last five games, earned its lone conference win against Cincinnati, 69-37. The Cardinals dropped BIG EAST contests to Syracuse (79-56), Notre Dame (82-74), Connecticut (92-71) and most recently at Rutgers (70-57).
Louisville is led by reigning BIG EAST player of the Year, Angel McCoughtry. She leads the league in scoring with 22.8 ppg and stands fourth in the nation in that category. She also leads the nation with 4.6 steals per game, and is tops in rebounding pulling down 8.7 rpg. Candyce Bingham follows with 13.3 ppg and Chauntise Wright rounds out the trio in double figures with 10.4 ppg.
Marquette will travel to USF for its second game of the road tilt on Saturday, Jan. 26. The Golden Eagles will return home to host Georgetown on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
