Golden Eagles Set to Play at Western Michigan

The Marquette women's basketball team will play the back-end of its two game road tilt Sunday, Nov. 23 at Western Michigan. Tip-off at University Arena is set for 1 p.m. CT.
The Golden Eagles will look to remain undefeated heading into the WBCA Classic Nov 28-30 where it will host Gonzaga, nationally-ranked Virginia and Utah at the Al McGuire Center.
In its last game, Marquette used a 72.0 second-half shooting percentage to defeat Indiana State, 77-53. The win in Terre Haute, Ind., marked the first time since 2005 MU won its road opener. All-American candidate senior Krystal Ellis scored 16 of her 19 points in the second half to lead the Golden Eagles, while freshman Georgie Jones pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Overall through three games, Ellis leads the team in scoring with 14.3 ppg, followed by junior Lauren Thomas-Johnson averaging 12.7 ppg. Jones' is averaging a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game, followed closely by sophomore Jocelyn Mellen and freshman Jessica Pachko with over 5.3 rpg each.
For Western Michigan (0-2) of the Mid-American Conference, Marquette is the last of two consecutive BIG EAST match-ups. The Broncos dropped a 88-60 decision to Pittsburgh in their home opener. Two Broncos have averaged double figures in the first two games of the season, as sophomore Brenna Banktson and freshman Miame Giden average 19.0 and 15.5 ppg, respectively.
Sunday's meeting between Marquette and Western Michigan will be the third in as many seasons and the third in program history. The two teams first met in 2006 at the Paradise Jam where MU?handled the Broncos, 74-61. Last season the Golden Eagles claimed a 78-74 win at the Al McGuire Center on Jan. 2, 2008.
