Marquette Hosts Green Bay Saturday

The Marquette women's basketball team is set to renew its long-standing rivalry with Green Bay Saturday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Sports 32 with Steve "The Homer" True and former Marquette standout Kelly Schwerman calling all of the action courtside. The game can also be heard on 540 AM ESPN Radio with Kent Sommerfeld and Matt Salmon on the call.
Saturday's game between the Golden Eagles (8-3) and Phoenix (7-2) will be the 35th meeting since Jan. 15, 1980. Green Bay owns the lopsided advantage, 27-7, but Marquette has won the last two.
The Golden Eagles are encouraging fans to bring in a canned food for MU's Hometown versus Hunger food drive. Donations will be exchanged for a discounted game ticket for a future game.
The Golden Eagles got back to what they do best, playing unselfishly, and dominated Oregon, 69-39, before a sellout crowd Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles distributed 21 assists on 29 made baskets and out-rebounded the Ducks 44-31. Senior guard Krystal Ellis led the team with 17 points, six steals and four assists, but it was perhaps Courtney Weibel who had the eye-catching performance of the game. In her first career start, Weibel knocked down three shots from beyond the arc, dished three assists and registered the second block of her career. Entering the game Weibel averaged 4.9 minutes per game. She played 17 minutes against the Ducks.
Green Bay started the season with seven straight wins, but have since hit a skid losing two consecutive games to Wisconsin and Illinois State. Senior center Lavesa Glover leads a balanced offense with 10.6 points per game, barely ahead of sophomore guard Celeste Hoewisch at 10.2. The other three starters average at least 7.2 points per game with two of those three right under 10 points.
