Marquette Heads to St. John's Saturday

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team will take to the road for three of its next four games with its first stop in Queens, N.Y., to play St. John's on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. CT. Live stats will be available on gametracker.
Marquette will return home to host Cincinnati on Tuesday, Feb. 5, before traveling to nationally ranked Syracuse (Feb. 10) and Notre Dame (Feb. 13).
The Golden Eagles (12-8, 4-3 BIG EAST) will look for their third consecutive BIG EAST win when they face the Redstorm. Marquette is coming off wins at USF (79-66) and over Georgetown (60-55).
Junior Krystal Ellis continues to lead MU with 20.1 ppg, an average that ranks third in the league. She registered a team high 14 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists and three steals against Georgetown. Fellow junior Kelly Lam has stepped up her inside game as of recent as she recored her first career double double of 11 points and 11 boards against Hoyas. In BIG EAST play, Lam has contributed 6.6 ppg and 5.4 rpg.
For the Redstorm (11-9, 2-5), Monique McLean leads a pair in double figures with 13.8 ppg. Kia Wright has added 11.0 ppg and a team high 4.2 apg. When glancing at a stat sheet, the Redstorm and Golden Eagles' statistical comparison is nearly identical. MU is averaging 68.6 ppg, while St. John's averages 67.6 ppg. MU holds a slight edge on the glass, 40.0-38.8, but the two teams' shooting percentages are equal (40.7 percent).
After opening league play with a win over USF, St. John's hit a skid losing to four top 25 teams in DePaul, West Virginia, Pittsburgh and Syracuse. The Redstorm picked up a win at Seton Hall in their last time out.
Marquette is 4-0 all-time against the?Redstorm in a series that began when the Golden Eagles joined the BIG?EAST in 2005. MU shared a home-and-home series with the Redstorm each of the last two seasons.
The Golden Eagles will be supporting St. John's "Think Pink" efforts Saturday. Marquette will wear pink shooting shirts and have pink shoelaces among other pink accessories and accents.
Over 600 schools nationwide will assist the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "Think Pink" initiative assisting in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Sometime between Feb. 6 (National Girls and Women in Sports Day) and Feb. 17 (the end of the WBCA's "Think Pink" week), BIG EAST institutions will be involving its women's basketball programs, along with its fans to support the fight against breast cancer.
Marquette will hold its "Pink Out" on Saturday, Feb. 16 when it hosts Seton Hall at 1 p.m.
