The Marquette women's basketball team will be thinking pink and are encouraging others to do the same as it hosts its third annual PINK OUT on Saturday, Feb. 16, for the Golden Eagles' game against Seton Hall. The 1 p.m. tip-off at the Al McGuire Center will air regionally over BIG EAST Regional Networks and locally on Time Warner Sports Ch. 32 Beth Mowins and Brooke Weisbrod calling the action.
Marquette's PINK OUT is part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "Think Pink" initiative to help raise breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Over 800 schools nationwide will assist in this effort Feb. 6-17.
Tickets are still available. Call (414) 288-GOMU for more information. All fans in pink receive half-price admission on Saturday.
All fans are encouraged to help pack the Al in Pink. The Golden Eagles will be sporting pink shooting shirts during pre-game warm-ups along with other pink accessories and accents during the game. The MU coaching staff as well as the band and cheerleaders will all be wearing pink.
Pink Marquette Basketball t-shirts will be available for a $10 donation.
Along with the PINK OUT, the Golden Eagles are holding a "3-point Attack Against Breast Cancer." One can pledge $5, $10, or any other amount for each MU 3-pointer made on February 16th. There is also an option to give a flat donation. Pledge cards will be available at the marketing table and can be found online at www.gomarquette.com.
In their last time out at Notre Dame, junior Krystal Ellis and freshman Courtney Weibel combined to drain a season-high nine 3-pointers.
A women's/family health fair sponsored by Aurora will begin at Noon on the Al McGuire Center concourse. There will be booths about cancer prevention and screenings, daily good health, preventing heart disease and more.
Over the last three years, Marquette has raised thousands of dollars for the Milwaukee Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Program (MBCCAP). This year all money raised will be divided between the MBCCAP and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
