Head Coach Terri Mitchell
On the PINK OUT and the national "Think Pink" initiative:
"Jamie Hays has done a great job for a cause near and dear to our hearts. To be part of this initiative means a lot and I think Marquette has done a great job. I think it is a great support for people to come out. We all know sport is on a tremendous platform. Society holds it up, maybe too high, but any time that you can take that platform and turn it into not just a game, but also something that is good for the community, I think it is a great thing. I love that Marquette did it. All of our players are very passionate about being part of it. I love that we made all of those threes because we made a lot of money locally and nationally."
On the play of the freshmen and Krystal Ellis:
"I really think you can't really talk about freshman anymore because of the time of year it is. What Angel is doing out there, and Paige and of course Krystal. When she has the kind of game that she does, we're all better because of it. She plays both ends of the court. I want to talk about Courtney Weibel and what you guys don't know is that everyday in practice she never complained, she came hard everyday to practice to work. What you saw in shooting is what we see everyday in practice. She just wasn't ready defensively. She needed to get stronger. She's still going to get a whole lot stronger in her career, but there is an unselfishness of our team to find her and get her open. We really felt that the last couple of games she was ready and today she did a fantastic job.
On three point shooting and points off of turnovers and facing UConn next:
"We've really come in the last couple of week to shooting practice as a team. Using Courtney as an example, Courtney steps onto the court and she isn't thinking about her shot because she has groomed it since the day she stepped on the court. She does extra shooting all of the time. The team made a commitment to shoot extra twice a week for one hour. It has made a huge difference because now we are stepping up and we are not thinking about our shot. We're thinking about the game, so that is one thing. The second thing is our offense is generated by our defense. We don't want to sit back to any opponent in the BIG EAST. We're going to prepare for UConn like we would prepare for any team. We know that they're awesome. They deserve every single publicity piece that they get. We want to prepare the same way for them. Have an attacking mentality and see what happens."
On if her play is due to her new haircut:
"Apparently, that is what everyone has been saying. I think it is just all of the time that I have put in."
On more playing time making her more comfortable:
"I think being able to get in the flow of the game really helps. When I wasn't strong enough and I wasn't playing defense I would come in when we needed a three. It didn't allow me to get into the flow. Now that I can relax a little more it is a little easier to shoot."
On getting screens today:
"It was our point guards pushing the ball. Everybody was so worried about Krystal and Angel getting to the basket that the wing was wide open."
On the game's atmosphere:
"It was really nice. It was a nice crowd. I think it was our second biggest compared to Connecticut last year. Everyone was really into the game and it was a good game to watch. I'm glad that everyone came out for "Think Pink." I liked that. I like that people are supporting the idea and I am glad that we're doing it."
On Weibel stepping up her play:
"It is really good. I am glad that she finally gets to be in. She's been great on defense and her three hasn't struggled. It always went in practice, but you guys never saw it. It is nice to be able to set someone up and get them the ball and know that at any time they can stroke it from anywhere. She has a quick release and you know when the ball is going in and when it is not. It is really good to know that we have somebody who can come out and expertly shoot people out of their zone."
