Marquette Head Coach Terri Mitchell
Opening Statement
"I can tell you that I am very excited to have the opportunity to coach again in March. March is a special time of year for any team, especially when you get to win and advance to the next round. Creighton played an excellent game, we knew of the firepower they were going to bring at us. We knew how they shot at South Dakota State in the second half and how they have done on the road. We were surprised by what they did to us in the second half but I thought our team never gave up, especially when we made that last shot. It was designed for Krystal to go to the hoop, we had some screens going on and everyone was going to crash and rebound. Krystal missed and it was just really big of Janelle (Harris) to step up and make the shot at a critical team. Nine seconds is a lot of time to get a shot off, especially when you have scorers. I thought we took care of the ball very well today and tried to look for other people. I said `whoever is open between Krystal and Angel, take it and go.' Krystal got going and everyone knew where they were going. We have another opportunity to play and we can't wait."
About many different players contributing:
"She (Krystal Ellis) did a great job of passing. Everyone knew Jocelyn was the hot shooter and we just kept trying to go inside outside. Obviously that is a great thing to have others step up. Krystal Ellis is such an awesome scorer and to be in a game in the postseason and to have other people saying they want the ball, I think that is great. Krystal had opportunities to shoot and she didn't, she passed. I think it's good that she can score nine points and we are coming out on the winning side after scoring 75. That's not how we are going to be every game, but tonight it was great to have our total team involved."
Red-shirt Freshman Forward Jocelyn Mellen
On the game:
"Our coaches told us that Creighton is a second half team and they really showed that. We've been in a lot of close games and we have learned a lot about being composed and getting the next possession and the next stop. [In overtime] we thought lets get it done and finish the game."
On scoring 15 points in the first half and two in the second:
"They (Creighton) really packed it inside in the second half. Other players were also making shots, Krystal (Ellis), Angel (Robinson), Nellie (Harris) were all making shots. I was posting like I was in the first half but they were doubling in the post and it really wasn't there."
On how Creighton held Krystal Ellis to nine points for the game:
"I think at the beginning of the year Krystal was our `go-to' player and throughout the season we learned that we can't always rely on Krystal and we have to make things happen ourselves. Not just stand around and wait for her to make a move."
Sophomore guard Janelle Harris
On how the team stepping up to score:
"I think our team his great when everyone is contributing and scoring. Krystal was struggling in the first half but everyone picked it up a bit."
Creighton Head Coach Jim Flanery
Opening Statement "Twenty-nine turnovers might have been the key. We just didn't do a good job handling the pressure, especially in the first half. We over-dribbled too much and tried to make plays without moving the ball first. The frustrating part about the first half is that they hurt us in the post. I felt like Ellis's lack of production was because they were kicking our butt inside, when they were having that kind of success inside they didn't need to go to her."
