MILWAUKEE - The Marquette volleyball team will welcome Sammie Hertaus to the squad for the 2008 season. Hertuas was officially accepted into Marquette and will be eligible to play for the Golden Eagles next season.
Hertaus comes from New Prague, Minn. and has had Marquette connections since she was born, as head coach Pati Rolf's former coach also coached her.
"Sammie is a tremendous defensive player," Rolf said. "She is coached by the same coach I had when I was 18 years old, which is how I got to know her. My old coach told me to look at her and we brought her in from his recommendation. It is really neat to have a kid who was trained by my old juniors coach. We also discovered that her grandfather and my father are close friends and I used to play at her mother's house. Needless to say, Sammie is meant to play at Marquette and she is practically family. Sammie is a perfect fit to Marquette and she understands our philosophy and the way that things are done. We are looking forward to having her."
Hertaus will see time in the defensive specialist/libero position. She was a three-time all-conference honoree and was named to two all-tournament teams through the course of her high school career.
