Volleyball Adds Deelo to 2008 Recruiting Class

MILWAUKEE - Head coach Pati Rolf announced Thursday that Amy Deelo has committed to continue her education and play volleyball at Marquette University. Deelo joins Laira Akin, Sammie Hertaus, Ciara Jones, Holly Mertens and Tiara Russell as members of the Golden Eagles' 2008 incoming class.
"She is a wonderful young woman who is an academic student first and has a great love of Marquette," said head coach Pati Rolf. "She is an incredible defensive player and her club team has won numerous major junior tournaments. She has great experience from playing with her club and high school teams. She will bring a lot of expertise in terms of her defense and knowing how to win games to our team She plays at a high level and will be a big help for us on the defensive end."
Deelo, a St. Louis, Mo. native, was a three-time varsity letterwinner at Cor Jesu Academy, and was described as the "heart and soul" of her team by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. As a senior, Deelo helped her team to the league, district, and sectional championships en route to a Class 4A State runner-up finish.
Deelo added to her list of accomplishments in her senior year as the Cor Jesu Academy MVP. She was First-Team All-Region, All-MWAA and All-District selection, and was named to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's All-Metro First Team. After tallying 13 aces, 312 kills on 820 attempts, 3.47 kills per game, 42 blocks, 373 serve receives, 453 digs, and a 96.6 serving percentage, Deelo was recognized by Prepvolleyball.com as an All-American.
As a junior, she was named a St. Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro Honorable Mention selection and was named to the second-team All-MWAA and second-team all-region as she recorded 23 aces, 253 kills on 732 attempts, 3.16 kills per game, 26 blocks, 222 serve receives, 317 digs and a 92.43 serving percentage. Her team won the district championship in 2006-07 and finished in second place in sectional competition.
