MILWAUKEE - Mike Van Sickle, who recently completed his junior season with the Marquette University men's golf program, has been named to the PING All-Midwest Region team recently announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Van Sickle won three collegiate events in 2007-08, claiming medalist honors at the Windon Memorial Classic and BIG EAST/MAC Challenge last October and the Ron Smith/USF Invitational in March. He has posted six victories overall, a school record.
In 13 events last season, Van Sickle managed a scoring average of 71.39, including 27 total rounds of par-or-better, both single-season school records. He helped lead Marquette to its first-ever BIG EAST Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Division I Central Regional this past May.
PING All-Region teams consist of the top 15 individuals in their respective region in the GCAA's Individual Ranking System. Additionally, any player ranked in the top 75 according to Golfstat or the Sagarin rankings not included in their region's top 15 are added. Members of the PING All-Region teams are eligible for PING All-America honors.
Van Sickle finished the 2007-08 season ranked No. 29 in the Golfstat Cup and No. 48 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
