[10:05 a.m.] ESPN’s long-awaited College Basketball Encyclopedia has finally been published and Marquette is well represented in the book, which took over three years to complete.
Here are some quick notes from the publication, which is over 1,200 pages long.
- Marquette ranks as the 24th-best program in the history of college basketball, according to the Sagarin ranking system utilized in the book.
- The 1975-76 team was selected as the program’s best ever, edging the 1977 NCAA Championship squad.
- Butch Lee was tabbed the program’s best player. MU is one of just 18 programs to claim both an NCAA and NIT title.
- Marquette ranks as the third-best program in the 1970’s and 32nd-best in the 2000’s.
- MU was the first-ever team with seven-or-more losses (25-7) to win a national title.
