MILWAUKEE - Marquette University head volleyball coach Bond Shymansky has announced the hiring of Burt Fuller as an assistant to his coaching staff.
"Burt is an excellent addition to our staff," Shymansky said. "He has an unbelievable wealth of experience at a very high level that has spanned more than two decades. I feel fortunate to have his knowledge and training expertise in our gym, as well as his determination and communication skills."
Throughout his career, Fuller has done a tremendous job finding and developing talent, evidenced by the 10 All-Americans and 40 all-league selections that he has coached over his collegiate tenure.
"He has recruited and trained some of the best players in the nation during his coaching career, which will give him the right perspective on how to help our program be one of the top in the BIG EAST, and the country. We are ecstatic to have Burt Fuller to round out our staff."
Fuller comes to Marquette following three years as the lead assistant at the University of Utah. Fuller helped the Utes to a 26-6 record in 2008 and a run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. During his time in Salt Lake City, Fuller helped the squad to an overall record of 69-25, which included two trips to the NCAA Tournament and a Mountain West Conference Championship in 2008.
Prior to his time at Utah, Fuller spent five seasons as the head coach at Utah State, guiding the Aggies to a 82-70 record. At Utah State, Fuller made two NCAA Tournament appearances and had two 20-win seasons, in addition to coaching two All-Americans and 10 all-league selections.
Fuller also spent seven years as an assistant at UCLA before landing at Utah State. While with the Bruins, Fuller helped guide the squad to six NCAA Tournaments, including a runner-up finish in 1994 and two appearances in the Elite Eight.
The Woodland Hills, Calif., native was a member of the Chico State men's volleyball program from 1984-85 and graduated from the University in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in recreation management. Prior to Chico State, Fuller earned an associate's degree from Pierce Junior College in 1982.
