Women's Basketball Earns Postseason Berth

The Marquette women's basketball team has earned an at-large bid and a first-round bye in Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) announced Monday night by WNIT officials. The Golden Eagles will meet the winner of Duquesne versus Butler in the second round at the Al McGuire Center on Monday, March 23 at 7 p.m.
The selection into the 48-team field marks the seventh consecutive postseason berth for MU, which complied an 16-15 overall record and a 7-9 mark in BIG EAST play. It is also the 14th post-season appearance in program history, 11th since head coach Terri Mitchell began her tenure at Marquette in 1996.
Marquette enters the tournament as the defending champion. The Golden Eagles won five straight games en route to the title including an 81-66 win at Michigan State in the 2008 WNIT Championship game. Marquette is 11-5 all time in WNIT/NWIT play.
