Head Coach Terri Mitchell
About Marquette's defensive effort...
"We just talked about when our offense isn't there, there defense never takes a possession off. I thought our players did a wonderful job of that. When we weren't hitting shots, our defensive effort was intense. It was great.
About how the team matched up athletically with ISU...
"I thought we matched up extremely well."
About Cirone's two made free throws at the end...
"They were at the line an awful lot. She is a great player, but there has to be the same regard for Angel Robinson. We worked hard out there. We build leads, we are not in that situation. It was a great basketball game. Great environment. Obviously we are the ones that are disappointed right here. I am excited about what the young players did and how we are going to build a future. If you look at our losses, we have had 7-8 losses under six points. We have competed and we were there. Now we are going to make sure we finish those games out."
About the pace of the game...
"We will play what ever way we need to win. We love to get up and down the court. Because our defense was making some great stops, there were times we needed to catch a breather. You don't do that on defense, you do that on offense and that is why you saw Angel walk the ball up the court just run some plays to get some reversals and get our bigs in good position. What Jess and Georgie did inside was great and their ability to find each other, and boy did they rebound. If you look at those shot clock violations, we were taking away their first and second option. The end of the day we didn't finish it. That is the part to build on."
Sophomore Angel Robinson
About making clutch shots throughout the game...
"We work on that all of the time in practice. Different situations like this, up one, down one, up two, down two, how much time is left on the shot clock. We have plenty time to work on those shots and I am going to make those shots next year and in the following year. My team is confident in me to make those shots and they want the ball in my hand at the end of the game. Overall I thought we played very good together. We didn't let one missed shot hold us back. We just get back on defense and come back again on offense."
About her last shot that spun out...
"To be honest, I thought it was in. Things happen. I am going to make that shot."
Freshman Jessica Pachko
About the battle in the paint...
"They were talking that the post was the x-factor. I felt the post players stepped up and did as much as we could. We were battling inside. It was physical out there."
