MILWAUKEE --The Marquette women's volleyball team will begin spring competition Saturday at the Great Lakes Center Collegiate Invitational in Aurora, Ill.
"This will be an exciting weekend for both the team and the staff to get out there and compete," said head coach Bond Shymansky. "It is important to put in hard work and this will allow us to compete at an elite level and establish the correct goals as to the direction of our program."
The Golden Eagles will be one of 19 squads taking part in the event and will be playing in Bracket B against Kansas State at 8 a.m. to open the event. They will then play the winner/loser of the Michigan State/Pittsburgh match.
Marquette will play a minimum of four matches but could play as many as five if it were to come out victorious in enough matches.
The Golden Eagles, after starting in one of the two eight-team brackets, will advance to pool play with a top-3 finish or another bracket if they were to finish in places 4-8.
It will be the first time that Shymansky has led the Golden Eagles in intercollegiate competition. MU finished last season 11-18 overall and 5-9 in BIG EAST play.
